Announced alongside the EOS R6V on 13 May 2026, the RF 20-50mm f/4L IS USM PZ is the first full-frame RF lens with built-in power zoom, and the first L-series lens of any kind to offer it. Zoom is driven by two of the lens’s three Nano USM motors, with the third handling focus, so focal length changes are motorised and repeatable rather than hand-turned. For video that is the difference between a usable zoom move and one you cut around.
The constant f/4 aperture holds across the whole 20-50mm range, and the optical stabiliser is rated at 6 stops on its own or 8 stops working with in-body stabilisation on a compatible EOS R body, measured to the CIPA-2024 standard. At 420g it is light enough to leave mounted on a gimbal all day.
Who it is for
Filmmakers and hybrid shooters who want a single L-series zoom that covers wide-to-standard, holds exposure through the range, and can execute a smooth zoom without an external motor. It is the kit lens for the EOS R6 V, and Canon also sells the two together as a body and lens kit.
If you want the same idea on APS-C, the RF-S 14-30mm PZ is the smaller, cheaper power zoom. For constant f/2.8 across a longer range, look at the RF 24-105mm f/2.8 L IS USM Z.
